Doctoral Research: My thesis explores the role of Irish-Americans in American fiction of the twentieth century, both in authorship and as characters. I am most interested in the acute isolation from both nations felt by the hyphenated American, as well as the overarching hegemony of Hibernicism: the evocation of a sense of 'Irishness'.
