Thesis title: Dramatic Extracting and the Reception of Early Modern English Drama
Research Interests: Early Modern Drama; Reception Studies; Reading History; Material Studies; Archival Studies; Digital Humanities; Commonplace Books and Miscellanies
Supervisor: Professor Adam Smyth
Doctoral Research: My doctoral thesis, ‘Dramatic Extracting and the Reception of Early Modern English Drama’, studies English dramatic extracts in printed and manuscript collections from the first half of the seventeenth century. In particular, my thesis complicates the argument that the practice of dramatic extracting elevated vernacular drama to a ‘literary’ status by offering a detailed analysis of how plays and their authors were treated and circulated in these collections, and for what purpose this material was collected.
