Research Interests: Mathematics, modernist poetry, and the philosophy of science.
Doctoral Research: I work on the uses of mathematics, predominantly modernist mathematics--non-Euclidean geometry, set theory, Gödel's paradoxes and the like--in modernist poetry. I perform close-readings of poems by William Empson, W.H. Auden, Laura Riding, Michael Roberts, and Charles Olson, among others. The thesis is primarily concerned with the philosophy of science and mathematics in these poems, particularly, how they mount a defense of poetry against the creeping monism of science in public and intellectual life.
